Warm wood, beautiful clothing and a light grey concrete floor. At Sodermans on Kempische Kaai in Hasselt, they together form a shop interior with character. Glansbeton carried out the polished concrete floor there. A project that nicely shows how much atmosphere you can create with the right combination of materials.

Wood adds warmth, concrete brings calm
The golden-brown tones of the wooden interior immediately stand out. You can see the grain in the cabinets, the counter and the display cases. That pattern gives the shop a warm appearance. The light grey of the floor provides a calm counterbalance.
Precisely because the floor is modest, the furniture and clothing stand out well. The wood draws your eye to the presentation; the concrete connects the different parts of the space. The materials do not need to have the same colour or texture to work well together.
The visible ceiling, the dark accents and the focused lighting also play a role. The whole feels well cared for, without every surface demanding attention.

A floor that holds the interior together
Between the shelves, along the counter and near the seating area, the floor remains clearly visible. It forms the calm surface on which the interior is placed. The display cases and wall cabinets divide the shop, while the light floor tone visually unites the space.
This also makes this project interesting if you are considering a concrete floor for your home. Notice how the grey blends with the wooden furniture. Or how the same floor looks different by the window and further inside the shop. Light, wood type and interior design all influence how you experience concrete.

A clothing store with its own workshop
Sodermans has been active in menswear since 1856. Besides the shop, the clothing house has its own atelier. There, it is all about the fit: together with the customer they look at what adjustments are needed and carry out the alterations.
You can also go to Sodermans for bespoke clothing. The range includes tailored suits, custom shirts and made-to-measure jeans, with personal advice on the choices. There is bespoke work for both men and women.
This personal approach suits the homely shop interior. In the lounge with coffee bar you can sit for a moment with a view of the water. The wooden furniture and light concrete floor together create a calm environment to view and try on clothing. Discover the shop and Sodermans’ own workshop.
A shop floor as inspiration for your project
You don’t choose a floor separately from the rest of the interior. Include the colours of your wood, cabinets and walls in the discussion. This way you can more specifically consider which appearance suits the space. The photos of Sodermans provide a concrete example of that cohesion.
