Frequently asked questions about concrete floors
From choosing your floor to preparation and maintenance: here you will find brief answers, more explanation and the technical documents.

What is the difference between residential concrete and an industrial floor?
Both can be a polished concrete floor, but the use and desired appearance differ. For a home, we discuss colour, finish and maintenance, among other things. For a business, factors such as usage load, wear and tear, and the execution of joints are important. View our services.
Can a concrete floor be combined with underfloor heating?
Yes, provided the floor structure, piping and execution are coordinated. The commissioning of the heating system also requires arrangements. Read more about concrete and underfloor heating.
What is the difference between smooth and washed concrete?
With exposed aggregate concrete, the stones on the surface become visible. This gives a different look and texture than a smooth polished floor. View the explanation and projects with exposed aggregate concrete.
Are large concrete tiles the same as a poured concrete floor?
No. Prefabricated tiles are separate elements. A poured concrete floor can also be cut in a tile pattern. Compare concrete tiles, a poured floor and a tile pattern.
Quotation and preparation
How much does a polished concrete floor cost?
The price depends on the surface area, construction, accessibility, shape of the floor and chosen finish. A plan and some photos help to properly assess the execution. Request a quote for your project.
What needs to be ready before the concrete works?
Coordinate the substrate, formwork, heights, reinforcement, pipes and access in advance. Protect vulnerable windows and doors and discuss the schedule with other contractors. Download the guide for residential concrete and read the site-specific agreements in your quote.
What is a frost edge?
A frost strip is a recessed edge on a foundation or floor slab, intended to account for frost action. The execution and depth depend on the project and the subsoil. View the information sheet about a frost edge and our explanation about a concrete foundation.
Can an outdoor floor be poured in any weather?
No. Rain, temperature and wind can affect pouring and finishing. The conditions and protection of the site must therefore be assessed beforehand. The execution schedule may change as a result.
Protecting and maintaining
Why is curing important for concrete?
Curing helps protect young concrete from drying out too quickly during hardening. The method must suit the concrete and the conditions. Read why curing is important for an industrial floor.
Is concrete hardener the same as a dirt-repellent protection?
No. The purpose and function of products differ. A hardener and a protection against contamination are not simply interchangeable. See the explanation about concrete hardener and impregnation, sealing and coatings.
How do I clean my concrete floor?
Remove loose and abrasive dirt, use a suitable maintenance product according to the dosage and avoid aggressive or acidic cleaners. Also follow the instructions for the applied protection. Read our maintenance information.
Where can I find the technical datasheets and colour charts?
At the bottom of this page you will find direct links to the documents. Pay attention to the edition and product name: for a new specification or an order, check the current datasheet of the chosen product.
