What does impregnation do?
An impregnation product penetrates the pores of the concrete. It reduces the absorption of certain liquids. The protection you get depends on the product: water-repellent does not automatically mean oil-repellent, for example.
That is why we choose the treatment based on the use. A living room has different types of dirt than a car workshop. Tell us what you use the floor for and what you want to protect it against.
Impregnation does not make concrete waterproof
An impregnation does not seal cracks or joints and does not solve leaks or rising damp. Read more about water repellency and waterproofing of concrete.
Treating a new or existing concrete floor
For a new floor, we plan the protection together with the installation. The floor must be suitable for the chosen product before we apply it.
For an existing floor, we first check what is already on it. A coating, wax or previous treatment can prevent the impregnation product from penetrating the concrete. Therefore, please provide us with photos and, if you have them, the product name of the previous treatment.
Dirt must be removed first. Read more about having your concrete floor cleanedImpregnation does not remove existing stains nor repair damage.
What changes occur to the colour and gloss?
This varies per product. Some treatments affect the colour or gloss. If you want to keep the current appearance, please say so in advance. With a test patch, you can see the effect on your own floor.
What does impregnating a concrete floor cost?
The price is determined by the surface area, the preparation and the chosen product. A clean, untreated floor requires less preparation than a floor from which dirt or an old layer must first be removed.
Send your site address, the surface area, and photos. Indicate the purpose of the space, which treatment has already been applied, and when the floor will be available. This allows us to determine the work and provide a price proposal.
Maintaining your floor after impregnation
Absorb spilled liquids quickly, remove sand and dust, and use the cleaner that corresponds to the treatment. Even impregnated concrete remains sensitive to certain substances.
Do you notice the floor getting dirty or stained more quickly? Have the protection evaluated before applying a new product yourself.
Frequently asked questions
Is my floor guaranteed to be stain-free after impregnation?
No. Impregnation reduces the absorption of liquids but does not prevent every stain. The product, the spilled substance, and how long it remains determine the result. Therefore, clean up spilled liquids quickly.
Is impregnation the same as coating?
No. An impregnation penetrates the substrate. A coating forms a layer on top of the concrete. We choose the treatment based on your floor, its use, and the desired appearance.
