For the retail park at IKEA Hasselt, Glansbeton realised polished concrete shop floors. The images from Kwantum show how the floor matches the shop interior: calm in appearance and suitable for daily use.

A retail floor that must withstand daily use
A retail park floor has to endure much more than an ordinary indoor floor. Customers walk in and out, shopping carts turn briefly, displays are moved and maintenance must be done quickly. A polished concrete floor is interesting for such an environment because the structural floor and the visible finish are combined into one durable whole.
At the Kwantum store floor in Hasselt, the focus was on a sleek commercial appearance, good cleanability and a floor suitable for heavy retail use. The concrete floor must look calm within the interior, yet be robust enough for the daily demands of a retail business.

Why polished concrete fits in commercial spaces
In stores, not only the look of the floor matters. The floor must be flat enough for shelves and store fittings, easy to maintain, and remain resistant to intensive foot traffic. By mechanically polishing the surface at the right moment, a dense and wear-resistant finish with a distinctive concrete appearance is created.
For larger commercial areas, the execution schedule is also important. The site must be prepared, poured, power-trowelled and protected in zones. Day joints, permanent joints, connections to entrance zones and the timing of other contractors all influence how precise the final result will be.
Advantages of a concrete shop floor
A concrete retail floor is now indispensable in the commercial landscape. Whether it is a shop, interior store, showroom or display room: a neatly finished concrete floor provides a professional appearance and long-lasting functionality. At Glansbeton we specialise in polished retail floors that combine aesthetics, strength and ease of maintenance.
- Functional: suitable for stores with heavy foot traffic and daily use.
- Aesthetic: a calm, modern base that suits various retail concepts.
- Calm floor appearance: large contiguous surfaces with a well-considered joint layout.
- Cost-efficient: a durable floor solution that can last for years with proper use and maintenance.

These images show the floor between shelves, lighting and home accessories. The grey concrete floor runs through the various store departments. The joints and the natural variations in the surface remain visible: they are part of the actual floor appearance.

Maintenance and use in a retail environment
A polished concrete floor is popular in commercial spaces because daily maintenance remains manageable. Vacuuming, mopping and an appropriate maintenance routine suffice in many retail environments. The floor is wear-resistant and retains its appearance when correctly used, cleaned and protected against aggressive products or incorrect cleaning methods.
Concrete remains practical even in store fittings. Shelves, counters and displays can stand visually unobtrusive on the floor, while the surface remains robust enough for visitor flows, shopping carts and deliveries.
Installation of a retail floor in concrete
For the installation, we start with the substrate and the planning. Then follow the pouring, the polishing and the careful concrete curing of the floor. Depending on the project, hardeners, colour choices, anti-dust treatment or anti-slip zones can be discussed. The right choice depends on the function of the space and the expected use.
