A swimming pool starts below the waterline. The concrete slab must fit the chosen pool, the subsoil and the further construction. Those who establish these agreements in advance prevent that pipes, heights or finishing are only discussed during the pouring.
What function will the concrete slab have?
In some pools, the slab supports a separate shell. In other systems, it forms the base on which walls are built. These constructions do not automatically require the same foundation. Therefore, provide the plan and installation instructions from the pool builder before the concrete works.
How thick should a swimming pool foundation be?
There is no useful standard answer for every pool. Dimensions, substrate, load, groundwater and the chosen system together determine the construction. Thickness and reinforcement are specified by the designer or structural engineer, in consultation with the pool builder. A general minimum thickness from an internet article does not replace that assessment.
What must be settled before pouring?
- The exact dimensions and the finished floor level.
- The intended subsoil and construction according to the execution plan.
- The position of drains, penetrations and other embedded parts.
- Accessibility for ready-mix truck, pump and finishing machines.
- The flatness and surface requirements for the next finishing layer.
Does the slab need to be polished?
That depends on the further finishing. Under a liner, disturbing unevenness is undesirable, but the pool builder must specify which surface and intermediate layers are required. The connection of walls and waterproofing must also be adapted to the design. Polishing alone does not make a pool construction watertight.

Agree in advance
Provide us with the pool plan, dimensions, accessibility and the scheduled pouring day. Agree together on who orders the concrete, who organises the pump and who distributes and levels the concrete. Also discuss how our team can access the work zone and where machines can be safely positioned.
Matching the Finishing
The pool builder determines which subsoil is necessary for the liner, shell or further construction. Communicate these requirements in advance: the desired flatness, floor height, any slopes and connections must fit the next construction phase.
