Practical explanation · pouring concrete
A concrete mixer cannot drive up to the floor on every site. A concrete pump delivers the fresh concrete to the place where the team processes it. Which pump is needed and what it costs depends not only on the number of cubic metres. Reach, setup space, height and the scheduling of concrete deliveries also matter.

When is a concrete pump needed?
A pump is useful when direct discharge from the mixer is not feasible or not suitable for the pour. Think of a floor behind a house, an excavation, a storey or a work area that is difficult to access from the street. The choice is made based on the actual situation and the desired execution.
Not every concrete floor automatically requires a pump. If the reach is sufficient, another delivery method may be suitable. For example, see our concrete parking for Knaepen, where it was poured directly from the mixer. That is a different site situation, not a general promise that pumping costs can always be avoided.
Reach is more than the distance from the street
The shortest line on a plan does not tell the whole story. The pump must be able to stand in a suitable location and the boom or pipeline must be able to reach the work area. Buildings, trees, passages and available height all determine which solution is practically possible.
In a hall, the clear height can be more important than in an open excavation. A suitable boom configuration or other pipeline arrangement may then be necessary. Have the pumping company assess the required reach and setup; a specified mast length does not automatically equal the usable horizontal distance on your site.
Agreeing on a suitable setup location
A concrete pump requires space to be set up safely. The ground must be suitable for the load of the chosen equipment. Manholes, basements, trenches or vulnerable pavements in the vicinity must therefore be known before the workday. The pumping company assesses how the machine can be positioned.
The concrete mixers must also be able to reach the pump. A setup area that seems large enough on its own can still be impractical if no truck can approach or unload. Therefore, coordinate the traffic situation and access in advance. If public domain use is required, the necessary agreements or permits must be arranged in time.
Send photos of the access
A plan shows the dimensions, but photos clarify a narrow street, gate, slope or low passage. Also mention whether the situation will still change on the day of the pour due to other works.

Keep parking space free for the concrete pump and mixer
A free space for the pump alone is not enough. The concrete mixer must be able to drive up, unload at the pump, and leave again. Also take into account the vehicles of the flooring team. Agree on the entire setup in advance and keep access clear during the concrete deliveries.
There is no fixed length of parking space that applies to every site. The chosen pump, the space for support, the unloading position of the mixer, and the traffic situation together determine what is needed. Have this assessed before the concrete delivery is definitively scheduled.
Access blocked after all? Report it immediately
If you see in advance that the agreed setup is not possible, immediately contact Glansbeton. Waiting until the concrete mixer arrives at the door can cause delays or an unfeasible delivery. The consequences and any costs depend on the situation and the agreements made.
What determines the price of a concrete pump?
A usable quotation describes both the equipment and the conditions. A small concrete volume can still require a full relocation, setup and cleaning. Conversely, a larger pour that is easily accessible can be organised differently than a small, difficult-to-access indoor floor.
| Component | What must be clear? |
|---|---|
| Pump and reach | The suitable pump type and the planned setup. |
| Quantity of concrete | The expected volume and the way this is charged. |
| Cost and waiting time | What is included and which conditions apply in case of delay. |
| Additional pipes | Whether a different pipeline arrangement is necessary and included. |
| Movement and completion | Agreements about supply, cleaning and the collection of residues. |
That is why we do not publish a universal pump rate here. Request a price for your floor, including the site situation and the expected volume. Also check whether the quote includes or excludes VAT and whether the pump is part of the complete contract for the concrete floor.
Why we prefer to organise the pump together with the flooring works
The pump operator, concrete supplier and floor team must coordinate with each other. When concrete delivery, distribution and finishing occur in the same rhythm, the team can carry out the pour in a controlled manner. Reserving a pump without coordinating the availability of the other parties makes the preparation unnecessarily vulnerable.
Glansbeton works with a pumping company for the pump. For our flooring works, we like to coordinate that deployment, so that reach, delivery, and processing fit into the same schedule. That does not mean every assignment gets the same pump or the same rate: the site remains the starting point.
The execution at Zuidzicht in Hasselt shows that connection on a larger scale. For a house, the concrete volume is usually different, but the coordination between supply and processing remains important.
What do you provide us for a targeted quote?
Send the address, the floor plan and the dimensions of the pouring area. Specify the intended level, the available access and the desired execution time. If the concrete volume has not yet been determined, our concrete calculator assist with an initial volume calculation based on the chosen dimensions. The required slab thickness must come from the design.
Also indicate which other works will take place on the pouring day. This way we can timely identify where access or scheduling is tight. On the page order concrete read more about the preparation of a concrete delivery.
Frequently asked questions
Do I also need a pump for a small concrete floor?
That is possible. Accessibility can necessitate a pump, even with a limited volume. The surface area alone does not determine the choice.
Can a pump operate in a low hall?
There are different setups, but the pumping company must assess what is feasible within the available height and space.
Why can waiting time affect the price?
Equipment and personnel remain available during delays. The exact billing depends on the agreed terms; request these in advance.
Can Glansbeton also operate the concrete pump?
For our concrete floor works, we like to coordinate the pump with the pumping company and the concrete delivery. Mention the site situation in your request.
