A white concrete terrace gives an outdoor space a distinct light character. For this terrace in Hasselt, Glansbeton executed a white concrete floor. The site photo shows the continuous surface along the house, with the protective foil against the facade and the surrounding garden still under construction.

White concrete floor
A white concrete floor as a terrace
The photo clearly shows how the concrete floor follows the shape of the outdoor space. The light surface runs along the facade and steps in on the garden side. There is no pattern of small tiles: the concrete floor, as a larger surface, defines the appearance of the terrace.
The protection of the house and the ground next to the concrete also shows the practical side of the execution. A terrace is not constructed separately from the rest of the site. The connection to the facade, accessibility during the pouring and the protection of the surrounding building parts are part of the preparation.
How does concrete get a white colour?
The project description mentions titanium dioxide as a white pigment. The composition and application method for a new white concrete terrace must be chosen for that specific project.
White on the surface or coloured throughout the mass?
The term "white concrete floor" by itself does not indicate how the colour was applied. Therefore, always discuss the composition and processing. As another execution example, see our white concrete floor coloured throughout the mix.
A photo gives an impression of the shade, but does not capture the result of a subsequent project. Light, moisture and the condition of the surface influence the image. When choosing a colour, compare suitable examples and discuss which appearance is achievable with the chosen system.
Why timing is important during finishing
The original project text emphasises the timing when power-trowelling white concrete floors. Working too long or incorrectly can disturb the desired light appearance. A white finish therefore requires attention to the concrete, the processing of the pigment and the correct moment of finishing.
That is also the reason to discuss the desired colour in advance. "We will make the floor white afterwards" is no substitute for a well-developed choice of materials and execution. The colour result is part of the floor preparation, together with the planning and the concrete curing. Also read our explanation about concrete cure.
A terrace requires more than a beautiful colour
Also discuss water drainage, door connections, the shape of the terrace, and daily use when planning an outdoor floor. A photo shows the appearance but does not reveal all choices behind the floor construction. Therefore, include a plan or sketch with heights and dimensions when submitting a request.
The desired surface texture also deserves attention. Those looking for a clearly visible aggregate can exposed aggregate concrete view. This Hasselt reference precisely shows the image of a light, more closed concrete surface. The choice between finishes follows from the desired appearance and the application.
Comparing white concrete indoors and outdoors
If you want to see the light shade inside a house as well, take a look at the white residential floor during finishing and protection. For another outdoor project, you can find at our reference in Diepenbeek a light floor with a distinct surface pattern.
