Concrete works on a bridge deck in Dilbeek

A bridge deck over a railway line requires a very different site organisation than a floor on the ground level. These images of our concrete works in Dilbeek show the execution in April 2011: from the prepared reinforcement to the delivery with the concrete pump and the distribution of the fresh concrete.

Delivering concrete onto the bridge deck

The overview photo shows the bridge over the railway line and the concrete pump next to the work zone. From the setup location, the pump reaches onto the deck. The material therefore must not only be brought to the site, but also placed in the correct position on the structure.

In this execution, you can clearly see the difference between the space next to the bridge and the work zone above it. The formwork and edge protection delimit the deck. The pump, access and the crew must be able to work together within this setup.

The reinforcement before pouring the concrete

The images before pouring show the reinforcement meshes and the connections along the sides. Only at this stage is the build-up still visible. Once the concrete is distributed, many of those components disappear beneath the surface.

That is why we also show the preparation in a reference. A finished surface does not tell the full story of a concrete structure. The position of the reinforcement, the edges and accessibility are part of the execution, while the structural requirements follow from the project design.

Distributing and finishing concrete on site

In the pouring photos, the concrete arrives on the bridge deck via the pump hose. The team distributes the fresh mix over the prepared area. In the foreground, the reinforcement is still exposed; further on, the surface is already filled with concrete. This way, you can see in one image how the execution progresses over the deck.

The site photos were taken on 8 April 2011. They capture different moments of the same pouring day: the early preparation, the concrete transport and the work of the crew on the structure.

From a site photo to a well-prepared assignment

This project demonstrates how closely concrete works are connected to their environment. The delivery, the height difference, the working space, and the sequence of execution are as visible here as the concrete itself. This practical information is also valuable when preparing another concrete assignment.

When submitting a request, provide us with the plans, location and accessibility of the work zone. Specify which preparations have already been carried out and which concrete works you want to discuss. More explanation can be found at preparing your site for concrete works and the use of a concrete pump.
