The experience of Glansbeton with concrete finishing also proves useful for the foundation of a wind turbine. In the site photo, you can see the round foundation, the ring of anchor bolts, and our van next to the concrete work.
Placing concrete around reinforcement and anchoring
The concrete is distributed between the reinforcement and around the anchoring. Then the surface is levelled and finished. Around the anchor bolts, this requires careful execution: the anchoring remains part of the structure on which the mast is placed.

A foundation tailored to the turbine
The dimensions of the foundation, the amount of concrete and the reinforcement are determined in the structural design. They depend, among other things, on the turbine and the subsoil. The execution of the concrete work aligns with that design and the site schedule.
From design to concrete finishing
A wind turbine foundation is a different application than a floor in a house or industrial hall. The similarity lies in the craftsmanship when placing, distributing and finishing the concrete. For a similar assignment, we are happy to discuss the plans and the desired finishing.
From reinforcement to finished concrete surface
The structure beneath the concrete surface is at least as important as the visible finishing. These site images show various parts of the foundation work: the reinforcement, the finished surface and the round formwork. They clarify why the concrete team must take into account the construction already in place.

Reinforcement and anchoring remain decisive
The photo clearly shows the extent of the round reinforcement structure. Once the concrete is placed, much of it disappears from view. Finishing the top side is therefore one part of the foundation work; the reinforcement and anchoring follow the design of the structural engineer.

Finishing around the central upstand
The round formwork and protruding reinforcement require attention when distributing and finishing the concrete. Along such connections, accessibility differs from that on an open floor. The desired heights and connections are coordinated in advance so that the finishing fits the continuation of the construction.

Why does a wind turbine need a special foundation?
A wind turbine consists of a foundation, a mast and a nacelle with the generator. The rotor extends high above the terrain. The structure must not only carry its own weight but also absorb the forces generated when the wind acts on the rotor and mast. The anchoring connects the mast to the foundation.
The appropriate foundation is calculated for the combination of turbine and subsoil. A visible round concrete slab does not tell the whole story: beneath the surface are the reinforcement and other components of the design. In the site photo, the ring of anchor bolts is clearly visible. The concrete must be carefully worked around this.
Concrete delivery and sequence on site
A large foundation requires well-prepared concrete supply. The batching plant, transport planning and the team on site must coordinate. The concrete is delivered, distributed in the right places and processed before the surface finishing can follow. Accessibility for the ready-mix trucks is therefore a practical consideration during preparation.
When placing, consideration must be given to the reinforcement and anchoring. It is not enough that the required amount of concrete arrives on site: the mix must also be placed in the prescribed manner. The execution follows the structural design and the agreements for the relevant pouring phase.
Glansbeton brought experience with distributing, leveling and finishing concrete to this project. It is a different site situation than a residential floor, but here too the finishing must align with the placed concrete and the conditions at the time.
How much concrete is needed for a wind turbine foundation?
There is no fixed number of cubic metres for this. The quantity follows from the dimensions and shape of the calculated foundation. The chosen foundation method also plays a role. Therefore, the quantity from another project should not simply be used as an order or starting point for a new turbine.
For site planning, both the total volume and the pouring sequence are important. These data allow the supply to be coordinated. The amount of reinforcement is also determined by the design. A ratio between concrete and steel from one example is not a general execution recipe.
How deep is a wind turbine founded?
The foundation depth also depends on the design and the subsoil. A soil investigation and calculation determine which solution is suitable. Where a shallow foundation suffices, the execution differs from a location where a deeper foundation or piles are needed.
The concrete finishing is one part of the whole. The final stability cannot be deduced from a photo or from the smoothness of the top surface. For a similar assignment, we therefore review the execution plans and the finishing prescribed therein.
Finishing and curing of the concrete
After placement, the concrete surface is brought to level and finished. The correct timing depends on the behaviour of the fresh concrete and the weather conditions. On an open site, factors such as wind, temperature, and precipitation play a role in organising the work.
The curing also belongs to the execution. It must be adapted to the requirements of the concrete work and the conditions. Polishing the top alone does not automatically make a complete foundation watertight. For the desired properties, the design, concrete, processing, and curing must align.
Wind energy: the broader context of this construction site
By finishing a wind turbine foundation, Glansbeton contributes to the infrastructure for wind energy. A turbine can produce electricity without burning fuel during that production. This is balanced against the materials and work required for construction, maintenance, and end of life.
Wind energy also involves practical considerations. Production depends on the available wind. The placement of turbines requires attention to the surroundings, such as the landscape, noise, shadow flicker and nature. These considerations are part of the preparation and assessment of a wind project. They do not change the importance of a carefully designed and executed foundation.
